Privacy Policy
I’m Gem, and 閱與Gem is my one-person teaching business. This policy explains what personal information I collect through yueyugem.com, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. It’s short because I collect very little.
1. Who this policy is for
This policy covers yueyugem.com and everything I offer through it: free resources, the newsletter, the placement quiz, the contact form, paid resources, and 1:1 coaching. It is written for parents, teachers and adult learners. The person responsible for your information is me: Gem, a sole proprietor based in California. You can reach me at admin@yueyugem.com or through my contact form.
2. Information I collect
When you use my site, you may give me:
- Free resources and newsletter: your email, your name (for the starter pack), your role (parent, teacher, etc.), the page language, and a record of your consent (date, time and policy version).
- Placement quiz: your name and email, your child’s age (optional), and the quiz answers and resulting reading stage. You, the parent, provide this. I don’t collect information directly from children.
- Contact form: your name, email, reason for writing and message.
- 1:1 session bookings: your name, email and the session time you choose, handled through MailerLite.
- Purchases and downloads: handled by Payhip. I receive your name, email and what you bought. I never see or store your card details.
When you visit, some information is collected automatically:
- Technical data: my host processes your IP address and browser information to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
- Usage data (only if you choose “Accept all”): pages viewed, clicks, approximate location, device and browser, measured by an analytics provider (see section 5).
I don’t knowingly collect sensitive information such as government ID numbers, financial account numbers or health information, so please don’t send them to me. Giving me information is voluntary. If you choose not to, I simply can’t send you the resource, results or reply you asked for.
3. How I use information
- To send the free resources, quiz results and downloads you asked for.
- To send my weekly phonics emails and updates, if you agreed to receive them.
- To reply to your messages, follow up about coaching, and help with problems with a purchase.
- To understand how people use the site, in aggregate, so I can improve it (analytics, only if you accept).
- To keep the site secure, prevent abuse, keep records the law requires, and respond to legal requests.
4. How I share information
I share information only with service providers that help me run the site, under their own privacy and security terms. They are grouped by what they do:
- Hosting and form storage (Netlify, United States)
- Checkout, payments and file delivery (Payhip)
- Analytics providers (Google Analytics), only if you choose “Accept all”
- Email, newsletter and booking platforms (MailerLite), including 1:1 session bookings
Browsing the site doesn’t load Payhip or Google Analytics. Payhip loads only when you start a download or purchase, and Google Analytics only after you accept. I may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect my rights, my customers or others.
5. Cookies, tracking, and analytics
I use a small number of cookies and similar technologies. One remembers your language choice and is always on. With your consent, I also use Google Analytics to see how people use the site. I don’t use advertising cookies or tracking across other websites. The full list of what is stored, and a button to change your choice, is in my Cookie Policy.
6. A note on “selling” and “sharing”
I don’t sell your personal information for money, and I don’t “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising (as those terms are defined in California law). I don’t use advertising platforms (Meta/Facebook, Google Ads), and I don’t turn on Google’s advertising features.
7. Do Not Track
I don’t track you across other sites. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, the site automatically records your cookie choice as “Essential only”, so Google Analytics stays off.
8. Email marketing
I send newsletters and updates only if you tick the consent box on a sign-up form. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link. It takes effect immediately, and I won’t send you marketing again. I may still send messages that aren’t marketing, such as a reply to what you wrote or help with a purchase.
9. How long I keep information
My providers store data in the United States and other countries where they operate. I keep newsletter and quiz information until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it, contact messages for up to 2 years, and purchase records for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Analytics data is kept for the retention period I set in my Google Analytics account.
10. Your privacy rights
- Unsubscribe: use the link in any marketing email.
- Access, correct, delete, or stop processing: ask me through the contact form or by email. I’ll respond within 30 days and won’t treat you differently for asking. These include your rights under Taiwan’s Personal Data Protection Act (Article 3) and California law. I may need to confirm it’s really you before acting on a request.
- California “Shine the Light”: I don’t disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing.
11. Children
This site is for parents, teachers and adult learners. It isn’t directed to children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent me information, contact me and I’ll delete it.
12. Data security
The site is served only over HTTPS. API keys stay on the server and are never placed in the web page, and form submissions are stored in access-controlled accounts. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affecting your information occurs, I’ll notify you as the law requires.
13. Third-party links and services
My site links to services such as Payhip, my booking tool, Instagram, Facebook and research articles. They have their own privacy policies, and I’m not responsible for how they handle your information.
14. Changes to this policy
If I change this policy materially, I’ll update the date below and, where the change affects how I use information you’ve already given me, ask for your consent again.
